An Environment Designed for Children and Adolescents
Each patient participates in group and activities therapy on a daily basis. In this nurturing atmosphere, we help the child develop a positive self-image, appropriate social skills and healthy communication.
Emphasis is placed on the identification of harmful behaviors and on gaining insight into the emotions behind the actions. Through this discovery process, the patients learn to accept responsibility for their individual behavior and develop healthy modes of interaction with others.
Our school program ensures that academic credits are not lost during hospitalization. Our special education teachers are equipped to deal with a wide range of unique educational needs.
The child's transcripts do not reflect that a portion of the education was received in our setting.
Family Involvement
Since emotional or behavioral issues touch all members of the family, involvement is an integral part of treatment. Group sessions help bring the family into the treatment process, since hospitalization can be a difficult time. Family members are encouraged to learn how to resolve conflicts and learn communication skills. The family component, central to the treatment of children and adolescents, addresses the mutual challenge of growth.
Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Program
The Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Program is designed to treat teens (ages 12 to 17) who have been diagnosed with a mental illness as well as a substance abuse disorder.
River Crest Hospital 's Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Program provides treatment for mental and emotional health needs as well as substance abuse issues. We provide a nurturing atmosphere and develop individualized treatment plans for each patient. Treatment is led by a board certified psychiatrist, and the treatment team includes licensed professional counselors, activity therapists, teachers, and registered nurses.
